Flesh Eating Mothers I believe was released on January 1, 1989. It was directed by James Aviles Martin. This is definitely one of the most silliest horror movies I have seen. But that don't stop us from watching does it? Very low budget movie about a virus that turns mothers into cannibalistic monsters. Lame script and acting all around for this movie. But its still considered a rare 80's horror gem amongst collectors.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was released October 1, 1974 and was directed by Tobe Hooper. Starring Gunnar Hansen, Marilyn Burns, and Edwin Neal. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was loosely based on Ed Gein. Although the film claims its based on a True Story, it is completely fictional. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was one of the most disturbing and graphical depictations of horror of the 70's and 80's.
Halloween was released October 25, 1978 and was directed by John Carpenter. Sarring Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence , P.J. Soles and Nancy Loomis. Halloween gave birth to the first ever iconic masked psychopathic killer, Michael Myers! Halloween was on a low budget of $320,000 and grossed over $60 million at the box office. It is one of the most successful independent films ever.
A Nightmare On Elm St. was released on November 9, 1984. It was directed by Wes Craven. It starred a young Johnny Depp, John Saxon, and Heather Langenkamp. It was the first of its kind ever! Freddy Krueger a razor gloved badly burned child murderer, supposedly dead in the real world has learned to terrorize teens in their dreams! One of the scariest horror movies ever to come out of the 80's!
The Howling was released April 10, 1981. Directed by Joe Dante and starring Dee Wallace Stone. One of the best werewolf movies made in my opinion. And some of the best F/X work of the 80's!
*Side Note* Bill Schnoebelen gives a 9 hour interview on a set of DVDs called, "Interview With An Ex-Vampire". He was deeply involved in the occult and satanism. He claims in the video interview that he knows that a REAL lycanthrope was used in the movie The Howling. The scene in question is the lengthy transformation by Eddie Quist. Watch it and judge for yourself!
